Onision has been embroiled in a number of controversies during his tenure on YouTube. Below includes a list of major controversies, listed under the year they began; please note that some of these issues spanned years or may still be ongoing.

2009

Murder Eaters and Vegetarianism

While the original content of Onision's channel can be regarded as edgy, his position as an early content creator on the YouTube platform earned Greg a mostly positive reputation. However, as time went on, Greg would begin including more videos where he would share his thoughts and opinions on certain subjects. Some of these gradually drew a hard line about Greg's beliefs on certain subjects, most notably vegetarianism.

On 24 February 2009, Greg uploaded the video "Murder Eaters" to his Onision channel. While it was not the first video Greg had uploaded advocating for vegetarianism, it was certainly the most aggressive to date. In the ten minute video, Greg berates viewers to expressing their dislike of his earlier videos talking about vegetarianism, while constantly yelling and swearing. The video was deleted shortly after its upload.

On 6 April 2009, Greg uploaded another video titled "Murder Eaters", with different content. Despite sharing the same name, this second video was much shorter, but repeated a number of the same points with just as much derision towards viewers. This video would also eventually be removed from the Onision channel.

2010

Divorcing Skye

In the earliest days of the Onision channel, Greg wasn't the only person involved in video creation. At the time, he had a wife named Skye who would also act in skits and music videos. Skye was a beloved fixture within Onision's content, with videos highlighting their relationship being considered fan-favorites.

On 24 December 2010, Greg would announce to his fans that he and Skye were getting divorced. At the time, the news shocked viewers.

Eventually, it became apparent that Greg had divorced his wife to date a younger fan, Shiloh.

2023

Child Sexual Abuse Lawsuit

On 8 February 2023, Regina and her lawyers filed a lawsuit against James and Lucas alleging that the couple had groomed her from the ages of 14 to 17. About a month later on March 2, Sarah and her lawyers would also file a lawsuit against James and Lucas alleging that not only had the couple groomed her, but that James had also molested her while she was underage and eventually raped her during one of her visits to the home as an adult. Both suits also cite YouTube as a culpable party because they allegedly knew of the harm the Onision channel and its affiliates had done to young fans over the years and did nothing to stop it.

At present, the cases are still pending.
